Welcome to Nibong Tebal’s first ever tourism blog! Nibong Tebal or better known as 高渊 in chinese or Ko Yean in Hokkien is located in Seberang Perai Selatan district of Penang. The majority of population here are Chinese who stay here speak Teow Chew (潮州话) instead of the Hokkien (福建话) which is commonly used on Penang island.
You can get to Nibong Tebal just by 35 minutes of bus ride from Penang, 20 minnutes from Butterworth by bus or taxi. There is a train station in Nibong Tebal. Buses from Johor Bahru depart for Nibong Tebal at 9.45pm daily.
Nibong Tebal is famous for Cheang Kee, a Chinese restaurant specializing in old school Teochew cuisine and seafood. People from Penang island and from outstation mostly come to taste the food for its popular crab porridge.
There are other famous delicacies such as Ais Kacang, Assam Laksa, Cendol, and Nibong Tebal version of Wan Tan Mee or better known as Ta Mee in Hokkien, a dried egg noodle with soy sauce.
